"You should hire someone to get rid of the trees..."

Florida woman would like our trees to be removed and replaced ASAP.

This conversation just took place verbatim 10 or so minutes ago. An older couple from Florida, maybe in their 70's are checking in. Woman: Gosh....the trees look absolutely awful without leaves on them. Me: You just missed our peak fall season. It was beautiful, but now most have lost their leaves for the season.

Woman: It's horrible. It looks....dep ng. Me: Yes, I can imagine that winters in the north can be a bit dismal compared to Florida. Woman: I knew it was going to be cold. I expected the cold. I'm not stupid. But the trees? Are all of them going to be like this? Me: Most trees in our region are deciduous and lose their leaves for the season, other than the evergreens. Woman: But the ones you have out front are ornamental, right?

(For reference, the trees in the front of our property are flowering crab apple trees) Me: I guess you could say that, they are absolutely stunning in the spring. Covered with flowers. Woman: Well why just leave them there during the winter when they look so horrible? (I kind of just gave her a blank look, as I wasn't quite sure what she was inferring.) Woman: Can't you remove them? I really think you should have them removed. They look awful. It's upsetting. (yes, she said the trees were upsett

Me: (not even knowing how to respond to the fact that this woman just told me we should remove our trees and replant new ones every year) Oh, well, those are full grown trees. Woman: Is there a manager I could talk to about this? Me: I am the only one on site at the moment, the owner will be present here in the morning when you check out.

Woman: OK. They need to be removed. It's very ugly. Just awful! How is anyone supposed to be comfortable staying here when all they see out their window are things that look D )! Are you sure that they actually aren't d' d? I mean....they really look d .d to me. I think you should get rid of them. I think they are d d. You could probably hire someone to come and do that tomorrow. And maybe when we get back to the hotel I won't have to look at de things. Me: Well...you are welcome to make your su

Me: Well...you are welcome to make your suggestions about them to the owner in the morning. I can leave him a note about your concerns in the mean time if you like. Woman (sounding excited) Yes! Leave him a note. We will be gone all morning tomorrow. I hope you get some pine trees so it will look festive! You know? For the holidays! It will be so much better! You'll see!

And with that, they went off to their room. They are here for 5 days. I'm now just imagining the conversation that will take place when she returns tomorrow to find that we had not done something completely ludicrous like removing and replacing all of our trees for her....

theotheraccount0987. Local plant nurseries where I live have to put up signs to let customers know the deciduous trees are "sleeping" not dod and the leaves will come back in spring. We have a subtropical climate so 99% of our trees hold their leaves all year and people get so confused when they see a deciduous tree. 1.7k Share ...

MicroMgr. Live oaks - all over our neighborhood near Austin, TX. I love that they stay green in winter, but having to rake leaves in fall for our deciduous trees and spring for the live oaks leaves something to be desired:) 195 Share freemakerlucy. We're currently living in Florida and our Live Oaks appear to drop their leaves all year round, just with more enthusiasm in Spring! I miss English trees (both deciduous and evergreen)that do what you expect them to haha.

SkwrlTail. This... Is a level of disconnect from reality that I really have trouble believing that she is allowed out in public without a leash. She seems like the sort of person who flounces from place to place. 753 Share Catona OP. She clearly hasn't flounced her way up north during the winter season too often in her life. 318 Share ...

Loud-Mans-Lover. Oh, this is gold. "I'm not stupid" proceeds to make the most ridiculous remarks & suggestion ever Don lady. You sure fooled me. You must have awesome control, I swear I wouldn't have been able to hold in my giggles at this! 366 Share ...

Catona OP. It's certainly a skill that took me years to develop. I've heard some pretty crazy and hilariously strange complaints over the years. I don't normally hold back on explaining to people why their insane requests are not reasonable (one guy called in advance asking if we could make sure the entire area outside of the hotel was completely free of moths or butterflies of any sort, mid June, because his girlfriend had a phobia of them), but it seemed like my attempts would have been totall

ThenComesInternet . You would have had to explain the entire concept of trees to her. Like, before we can even begin to have this conversation, we have to have a whole nother conversation. I get that a lot as a nurse and it is frustrating. Sometimes I'm just like ... "Ok yes sir, I will ask the doctor if we can give your mother who hasn't been awake for three days and whose b od pressure is 70/40 and who is

breathing 12 times a minute stronger pain medicine because she is moaning a bit. Because I can't explain this to you any harder than I've already explained it. I'll ask. She'll say no and look at me like I've been eating Du ss Sandwiches for lunch, but by god I'll go ask her ok? Ok. Stop pressing buttons." Sorry, this post was about you. I had a long day. 120 Share ...

Tall_Mickey We had a natural disaster here, and the city took the opportunity (and the financial aid) to refurb downtown infrastructure, including new landscaping. There was a lot of civic argument over which trees to use. Several months after trees were chosen and planted (several varieties) there were additional histrionicswhen some of them began to drop leaves. OH NO, THE NEW TREES ARE DYTIG! It was explained, gently, that two of the varieties were deciduous. For the record we're mostly everg

melibel24. She's got to be from south Florida. But even still, trees lose their leaves in Florida. They just don't turn pretty colors before they do it. One day they're green and the next they're brown and on the ground. Nobody is changing out c ad trees in Florida, except for at the House of Mouse. 83 Share

SheBelongsToNoOne ⚫ I'm sure she's on the board of her local home owners association. 48 Share MillianaT. This is a person who knows nothing about plants and thinks trees are just like the flowers that their gardener has planted that grow cyclically, that somehow magically appear and disappear to suit their owner... 86 Share ...

Catona OP I'm pretty sure this was the type of notion that was driving her completely unrealistic thought process. She seemed to be talking about full grown..many decades old trees, as if they were like annuals in a hobby garden that you just dig up and toss out at the end of the year and replant in the spring. As if you could just pluck them right out of the ground like a flower.... 79 Share

[deleted] And maybe when we get back to the hotel I won't have to look at de d things. "Please do not look in the mirror then" 28 Share ... JungleBoyJeremy Hahaha well you handled that like a professional. Just reading your post made me want to tell things at that lady. 78 Share

Catona OP I look greatly forward to hearing how the owner handles her totally reasonable suggestion. I don't get paid enough to be the one to tell this lady that the idea of removing and replacing fully grown trees every year is unfeasible and insane. 108 Share
